Additional VAT on receipts?
Wednesday, 15 February 2006
After the incident of the radio last January, I've tried to tune in on the station just to see what the announcer is commenting on or what their listeners may be complaining about.

Last week, a caller called to ask if gasoline has VAT or not. She said that when they filled their talk at one gasoline station, there was VAT indicated at the bottom of the receipt whereas in another gasoline station there was none. The radio announcer does not know and said they'll try to find out.

This week, another caller called the station to complain that they made some purchases in a grocery store and there was no mention about an VAT but after they have paid for the item and checked their receipt, there was VAT indicated at the bottom of receipt. The radio announcer said they will try to find out.

If the radio announcer who should have been up to date on the latest news and developments in the country cannot answer the question, given a week to try to find out and has no answer, how can we expect the general public, who rely on the media, to understand what is happening around us.

Price of sugar
Wednesday, 25 January 2006
What a way to start the first article on this new website. Our name just hit the airwaves. We were told by those who heard it on the radio (dzrh) that the person is complaining that our price of sugar is too high. This was followed by a call from a representative from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) checking up on our prices. They said someone has complained that the prices of our sardines are too high. We were supposed to be selling sardines at P14. Currently, our prices of canned sardines average around P10 to P10.50. Our sugar is currently selling at P35.25. DTI has confirmed that some other stores even has a higher price.
